Quick Lesson in Russian Art History

Arzamas introduces their crash course on 20th-century Russian art with an info-packed video.

Arzamas, an educational project with a focus on humanities, allows you to acquaint yourself with art movements such as the Russian Art Nouveau, Social Realism and post-Soviet art in less than 30 minutes. Among other things, witness the emergence of previously unthinkable art forms that go beyond the definition of beauty, challenging the notion of art in general, with the Russian Avant-Garde artists.

The video (with English narration by Brian Denis Cox) guides viewers through key moments of Russian and Soviet history – from the Revolution and Stalin's dictatorship to Khrushchev's thaw and the fall of the Soviet Union – using art as landmarks.

The course continues as audio lectures, also available in English on the official website.
