Vintage Classics has published a new six-volume collection, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. The series include new editions of Mikhail Bulgakov, Vasily Grossman, Boris Pasternak, Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky.
The campaign was completed with the series of animated short films executed by students of Kingston University's animation course. The project formed the brief for the Kingston Animation Prize and became the third collaboration between Vintage and Kingston.
Inspired by the series' cover designs, the films are diverse in style and execution. Perhaps the most interesting yet least recognized is the dedication to Dostoevsky's “Crime and Punishment.” Using a more symbolist approach, the animators managed to depict the complex inner struggles of the protagonist with the minimum of tools.
